The exceptions for the mandatory use of the mask in TransLink’s are:
- Anyone with an underlying medical condition or disability that inhibits the ability to wear a face mask or face shield.
- People who cannot put on or take off the mask or a face cover without help.
- Children under 5 years old
- Transit employees working behind a physical barrier or within areas designated for employees and not for public access.
- Police, employees or lifeguards in case of emergency.
If someone falls under the above exceptions they can pick up an exemption card at Compass Customer Service Centers at Stadium - Chinatown and Waterfront stations. If you are unable to visit a Compass Customer Service Center, visit this link contact us to discuss the options that might be available.
Although the Traffic Police will be able to enforce this rule that requires face covering in transportation, the initial focus of the policy will be on COVID awareness and education. Frontline employees can inform or remind customers to wear a face shield when aboard transit vehicles.
